Text Message Video Workflow
A chat typed out live, iMessage-style — the hook over the top, the reply being typed by the first second, the last text the payoff.
What you walk away with
A 9:16 MP4 of a Messages chat typed out live (up to 15, 30 or 45 seconds), the final screen as a still for a one-screenshot post, and a post caption — saved to your Gallery.

What is the Text Message Video workflow?
The texting-story format — a Messages screen, one line of TikTok text over the top, a conversation that plays out bubble by bubble — as a workflow. Say what it's about and pick the shape (the 3 a.m. question, what-do-I-say-back, the recommendation, a text prank, unreasonably sweet); the thread is written in how people actually text and played as a screen recording, keyboard up and every reply typed out. Each step explains what needs to happen, why it matters for reach, and how to do it in the dashboard.
Before you start
Have these ready so you don't hit a blocker mid-workflow.
- A ppl.studio account — the chat is written on your Gemini key (a fraction of a cent); the screen recording costs nothing.
- A topic your audience lives with. A product is optional — only the recommendation format names it in the chat.
How the Text Message Video workflow works
Read the marketing goal of each step top to bottom. Expand any step for the exact ppl.studio tools, worked examples, and gotchas.
- Step 01~1 min
Pick what it's about and the shape
Say what the chat is about in the audience's own words, and pick the shape it takes. Each shape is built to get one thing: the 3 a.m. question and the prank get comments, the sweet chat gets shared, what-do-I-say-back asks the viewer to write the reply, the recommendation gets clicks.
Why this matters: The format is most of the result. Texting posts travel on a mechanic — a question that keeps not being answered, a line nobody knows how to answer, something you'd send to your person — not on the topic alone. Picking the mechanic first is what separates a post people finish from one they scroll past.
OutcomeA topic and a chat format — plus, if you want them, a hook you've chosen and the look of the screen. How to do it with ppl.studio
The setup asks for the brief (the topic, who it's for, the language) and then the chat's shape, the hook if you have one, dark or light mode, the length and whether the keyboard is up.
- 1.1
Write the topic the way your audience says it
One line, in the words people use for their own problem or moment — not your category name. The chat is written about it.
Example
'not being able to sleep before a big day' beats 'sleep wellness'.
- 1.2
Pick the chat format
The 3 a.m. question (a late-night thread that stalls until the last line), What do I say back? (ends on their message), The recommendation (a friend has the problem; your product is named once, by a person), The text prank, Unreasonably sweet, or Fight, then sweet (bickering until their last reply turns sweet, posted with nothing over the screen).
Tip: Your product stays in the post caption in every format except the recommendation — a chat that reads like an ad stops getting shared.
- 1.3
Choose the screen
Dark or light mode, up to 15, 30 or 45 seconds, and whether the keyboard is up with your texts typed out key by key. Length doesn't change how long people watch — pick what reads; a long chat's middle is cut to fit.
Output: A brief, one of five chat formats, and the screen options.
- Step 02~~15 s
Get the chat written
The thread is written for the format: the hook over the screen, the Messages timestamp, and 4–16 short bubbles between you and them, ending on the line the format needs.
Why this matters: Models write clean sentences; real texts don't. Each side of the chat is given its own habits — one types in lowercase without apostrophes, the other capitalises — so it reads like two phones, not a script. And every thread passes the same copy checks as the rest of ppl.studio: no ad-speak, no bubble too long to read, no hook promising a number the chat never says.
OutcomeA text-message thread you can read, edit bubble by bubble, or copy. How to do it with ppl.studio
Hands-off, the chat is written as soon as you start. It shows in the run the way the phone will: yours on the right, theirs on the left.
- 2.1
Read it like a viewer
Does the hook open a loop the last message closes? Would you stop on the first bubble? If not, edit it — every message, whose it is, the hook and the timestamp are editable.
- 2.2
Edit, and it's drawn again
Saving an edit stores the new chat and renders the screen recording again — free, about a minute.
Output: One thread: a hook, a timestamp, 4–16 messages.
- Step 03~~1 min
Render the screen recording
The chat is played as a screen recording of Messages: one message already on screen, your reply being typed by the first second, their replies arriving after the typing dots, 'Delivered' under your last text.
Why this matters: The first two seconds decide the view. A clip that opens on a still wall of messages loses the thumb that's already moving; one that opens on motion — a reply being typed — holds it. The screen is laid out for how TikTok actually shows a video on a phone: the hook clear of the top bar, the bubbles clear of the like-and-share rail.
OutcomeA 1080×1920 MP4 and the final screen as a PNG, in your Gallery. How to do it with ppl.studio
It's drawn frame by frame on our side — no video model, no cost, no preview to approve. It takes about a minute.
- 3.1
Download the video
The finished clip is saved to your Gallery. It has a silent audio track, so it joins other clips in the Editor too.
- 3.2
Or post the still
The last screen is saved as a picture — the one-screenshot post with a trending sound is a shape the biggest texting posts take.
Output: One 9:16 MP4 (1080×1920, 30 fps, silent track) and one PNG of the last screen.
- Step 04~2 min
Post it with a sound
Upload the MP4 to TikTok or Reels, pick a trending sound at low volume, and paste the caption.
Why this matters: The video is silent on purpose: the sound is picked in the app, where you can use what's trending that day. The caption carries your product's name and whatever the format asks of the viewer.
OutcomeA posted video with a sound and a caption. How to do it with ppl.studio
The run's last step writes the post caption from the chat.
- 4.1
Write the caption
One click writes the post caption and hashtags from the chat. The recommendation may name the product; the other formats put it here.
- 4.2
Make a series
Same format, a new topic — or the same topic in another format. The format that wins in your niche is the one to repeat.
How it compares
Text Message Video workflow FAQ
Is the chat real?
No — it's a written, dramatised conversation, like the texting stories already on TikTok. The contact has no name or photo, so it never stands in for a real person. Don't present one as a real person's messages or put a real person's name in it.
Why is there no sound?
The sound is picked in TikTok or Instagram, where you can use what's trending that day. The file has a silent audio track so it still joins other clips cleanly.
What does it cost?
Writing the chat is one text call on your Gemini key — a fraction of a cent. The screen recording is drawn on our side with no video model, so it costs nothing and needs no approval step.
Can I use my own chat?
Yes. Edit any message in the run, or write the whole thread yourself on the Editor page and render it there. Over the API or the MCP server, start the cut:chat brick with your own thread.
Does a longer video do better?
Not in what we measured: two chat clips of 11.5 and 30.9 seconds posted 18 minutes apart were watched about 6 seconds on average either way. Length changes the completion percentage, not attention — pick the length that reads.
