What is Answer inclusion rate?
Answer inclusion rate is the share of a target set of comparison or consideration queries for which a brand actually appears in the AI-generated shortlist. It is distinct from citation rate, which measures single-source factual citations: inclusion rate measures presence in assembled 'best X' and 'X vs Y' answers, where being in the list at all is the first hurdle. A complete comparison-query measurement tracks four things per query across engines: whether the brand appears in the shortlist at all (inclusion), at what rank or position, with what 'best for' framing the model assigns it, and whether that framing matches the brand's intended positioning. Framing drift — the model calling a premium brand 'the budget option' — is a content-corroboration problem to fix at the source, and tracking inclusion rate alongside framing is how a brand catches it before it hardens across the answer surface.
Key statistics
- Inclusion rate measures presence in assembled comparison answers; citation rate measures single-source factual citations — they are different metrics.
- A full measurement logs inclusion, position, assigned 'best for' framing, and whether the framing matches intended positioning.
- Framing drift is a content-corroboration problem fixed at the source, not a ranking tweak.
