What is Flux 2?
Flux 2 is Black Forest Labs' next-generation image model family, succeeding the original Flux Pro / Flux Dev / Flux Schnell lineage that defined 2024 open-weights image generation. Flux 2 keeps the open-weight strategy that made Flux 1 the default backbone for indie product-photo tools and self-hosted creative pipelines, while shipping major improvements in photorealism, identity-lock under LoRA fine-tuning, multi-subject scenes, and text rendering. For AI UGC pipelines specifically, Flux 2's identity-lock and product-faithfulness behavior is the key advantage: it preserves uploaded reference faces and product PNGs more reliably than the Flux 1 generation, with less LoRA fine-tuning effort. Flux 2 is available via API providers (Replicate, fal.ai, Together) and as self-hostable weights for teams running their own GPU infrastructure.
Key statistics
- Flux Pro 1.1 (Ultra) led the Artificial Analysis Image Arena for most of 2024–2025; Flux 2 was announced for late-2025 / early-2026 release (Black Forest Labs roadmap).
- Flux 1 powered ~30%+ of indie product-photo and AI UGC tools in 2024–2025 — making it the most-deployed open-weights image model in commercial AI photography (open-source telemetry, fal.ai/Replicate disclosures).
- Flux on Replicate and fal.ai runs at ~$0.025–$0.055 per image depending on tier — substantially cheaper than the comparable closed-model tiers (provider pricing pages, 2025).
